This is my review for Harlan’s Automotive. I normally do not leave reviews to start off but what they did for me deserves one. I got a call from my mother saying my Aunt was gravely ill with just days left to live. I packed everything up and drove the 14 hrs to Murray, KY from Midland TX. As soon as I pulled into the driveway my transmission went out. As a Murray native I knew a couple places to call but they were booked up for at least a week and I didn’t have that kind of time off cleared with my company. I called Harlan’s and they took it in immediately. I explained my situation and they told me the timeframe was about 3 days for the repair. They went even further and asked if they could help me personally with anything to help me through the crisis. Their thoughtfulness was above and beyond. Harlan’s projected timeframe was spot on. They had it all fixed and ready. I will most certainly return all my vehicles to them in the future if the occasion arises. Thank you for everything you did for me and my family.

You are welcome. Glad we could help. Thank you for the review.

Kind, thoughtful pros! Can't recommend them enough. We broke down on the interstate, midway through a 1200 mile trip. They went way out of their way to help us get to safety, and then make our car road safe. Went WAY beyond the ordinary for us, including finishing the work on a day they are closed, to help get us back on the road and on to our vacation. Mr. Harlan and his team, (special shout out to the lovely woman in the office, and Mrs. Harlan!) helped take the sting out of a bummer of a situation. Wish we could bring all our vehicles to them...but living in Wisconsin makes that tough!

Thank you Jacqi for your review and kind words.

Trustworthy and transparent. You get what you pay for. The prices are substantially higher than most of the mom-and-pop garages around here, but they're considerably lower than the dealership, and they aren't going to try to mess around and sell you stuff you don't need. They aren't going to change what they recommend based on how much they think you know about vehicles. Harlan's is consistent, professional, the garage and waiting room are *very* clean, they provide detailed inspections with pictures & videos through a very cool website so you can view it whenever you want, they text you with updates as they work on your vehicle, and they'll answer all of your questions. The people at Harlan know what they're doing. I've been told it is stressful when women call shops because they usually talk to gruff, rude men who treat them like they're stupid, so if you are a woman looking to get your car worked on, Harlan is a good choice. The person who answers the phone is a really nice, patient lady, so you won't feel uncomfortable talking with her and asking questions. I've been messed over and spent over a thousand dollars on nonsense repairs at other shops in town, and one of the cheapest repair shops even took a problem on one of our vehicles and made it worse, then tried charging me for fixing it. But not at Harlan's. Would definitely recommend. The service is way above and beyond anything else I've experienced in Murray.

Thank you for putting your trust in us. We love taking care of our customers on an individual basis! We look forward to serving you in the future.

My steel rear brake line failed during the weekend while in Murray, which is four hours from home. It was towed to Harlan Automotive, and I had to make arrangements long-distance to get it fixed. Harlan promptly replaced the break lines on both sides for a very reasonable price. They also provided a texting service to keep me appraised on their progress: from when the tow truck arrived, when it went into the garage for inspection, when a quote was ready, when the car was done, etc. Mike, the owner, also followed-up a couple of days later, via text, to make sure everything was still good. Very positive experience.

I just want to say thank you again to Harlan Automotive and Mike. Recently I bought a used Mercedes-Benz E-Class in California and delivered it to my elderly mother in Murray Kentucky. The car is the W211 chassis which I've always liked since it first came out. A generally very reliable car. I've been driving BMWs and Mercedes since the 80's and wanted to get her a safe, reliable and low maintenance car. That said owning these cars can be inexpensive but only if you don't let things go too far maintenance wise. You also do need a knowledgeable mechanic and he can save you a LOT of money and lower your Total Cost of Ownership. Before delivering it to her I had my mechanic of 20 years service the car and also had him perform all the minor repairs and work it needed using only new Mercedes parts. Unfortunately a few weeks after being delivered to her the car's alarm decided to fail and began running down her battery silently 3 nights in a row. One of the guys with the service and towing guys suggested Harlan Automotive. I ended up talking to Mike at Harlan Automotive and was very pleased with his technical knowledge and dedication to customer service. He even arranged rides for my mom to get to and from the shop. He fixed the problem the first time for the price agreed, and delivered her repaired vehicle within the promised time window including the ordering and delivery of the new alarm module. I also want to take a moment to address a theme I saw on a couple of other Yelp comments. My sense of things is that Harlan Automotive is an honest shop providing top shelf garage services to drivers who are interested in a fair price to maintain their vehicles. It's not going to be the absolute cheapest place but they're fair, honest, reliable and quality focused. They also stand behind their work and went out of their way to help my elderly mother.

They were very friendly and got me in as soon as they could, but they over charged me. I went in to get a diagnosis on my car. For 30 minutes worth of labor and a simple oil change my bill ended up being $117. That’s ridiculous. $49 for labor and $56 for the oil change. All I wanted was to see what was wrong with my car. I would have gotten an oil change else where. They never asked if they could do the oil change! The only good thing that came out of this is instead of charging me for an hours worth of labor they charged me half.

Gabrielle, Sorry for the misunderstanding. According to our records you brought your car in because the oil light was on and the engine was rattling. We had to add 3 qrts of oil to get it up to the safe level. After that, the oil light went out and we check the engine for damage. After we made a correction on your bill, total cost ending up only being $75.00. I hope this clarifies your concern. And again sorry for the confusion.

I started going to Harlan Auto in the interest of supporting local businesses, Mike had also been a regular at a restaurant I worked at. Mike and his team are excellent! Straight forward on what's needed, timely, and even helped me get to and from work one day when I had to leave my car for service! When it came time to buy a used car, I took it in for minor work and they did a courtesy inspection as well, saving me time and money!

So glad we could help! We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future! Thanks!
